Which Footplate if Right For Me?

These footplates are designed to fit manual wheelchairs with either a flip-up footplate of a fixed (no-flip) footplate.   Do not install these footplates on power wheelchairs or wheelchairs that use an individual footrest for each foot.  There are three things to consider to determine the right size and type footplate:

  1. Does your manual wheelchair have a flip-up footplate and/or does your current footplate bolt in the back of the footplate?  Then the type you want is a “Flip-Up” Footplate.  If not then does your footplate bolt in the front, if so then the type you want is a “Fixed” footplate.
  2. How wide is your current footplate or how wide will your current wheelchair accommodate.  Measure between the two downward tubes.  You will want a footplate that is a little smaller than the space between your tubes. This is the “Footplate Width”.
  3. Measure the space between your two bolts on your current footplate.  This measurement should be between the “Minimum and Maximum Bolt Hole Spacing”.

If you have any questions about fit, please contact us before you buy a footplate and we are more then happy to point you in the right direction.

What do we mean by Universal Footplate?

The problem is that each manufacturer uses their own bolt spacing and some use metric bolts while others use imperial bolts.  So for us to make a footplate in a certain size then we would need to make several variations to match each manufacturer.  We designed the universal footplate to address these issues.  Each footplate can accommodate a wide variety of bolt spacing and can be used with their metric or imperial flat head bolts.  Voila, one footplate in each size to rule them all.  (Or something like that, insert cryptic laugh here).
